Why I like Babylon 5

If I had to sum up why I like Babylon 5, I would have to sum it up to a couple points.

1. Realism. If we went to space, I can see us living in that type of society. Where gravity is made by rotating sections of ships. I love that idea, and the fact that ships don't act like they are in atmospheres, like X-Wings, or Star Trek shuttles do. They act like spaceships, with thrusters in different places to keep them steady and moving.

2. Storylines. This show actually has a good storyline. I love Star Trek, but the fact that, especially with TOS and much of TNG, they have no real storylines, it really bothers me. I understand the nature of episodic shows, but, nothing that happens in one episode seems to affect the other episodes. Picard being assimilated seems to be the first ST thing that has ramifications through the remainder of the series.

However, with Babylon 5, you have a 5 year arc where things from episode A later influences episode J which in turn influences episode R.

3. No one is as they appear to be. There are no technical bad guys or good guys. And if they are one or the other, they have moments of weakness or good intent. Delenn, a very good person, ordered the human race destroyed in a moment of raw anger. Mr. Morden, the servant of the Shadows, made sure to return the Eye to Londo Mollari because it meant something to him after destroying the raiders who stole it. Well, in the case of Mr. Morden, you can rightly claim it was to further the Shadows goals.

I have heard the Drakh probably were the closest thing to pure evil the show had, but, we must also keep in mind, that they were taught to be such. So, they probably view themselves as the heroes.

Now, with that said, I'd just like to say that if anyone has comments, or anything to say, please leave them. I won't mind them; it'll let me know I am on the right track or not. Just in-case you weren't sure how I would take it. I will welcome it.

And so it begins

Hello all,

I am Adam, and I am your host for the ride. So, I love Sci-Fi. In all shapes and sizes. From Stargate and Star Trek, to Star Wars and Babylon 5. I have indulged in the Original Battlestar Galactica and even in the Re-imagined Series.

I have written Fanfiction for Star Wars, Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica.

I am even now writing a Sci-Fi story, inspired by most especially Babylon 5.

I was 5 years old when Babylon 5 first came on the air. But, I first learned of it when I was 9. I was at my Grandparents house and they had some VHS copies of the show, but when I saw it and despite the fact it had a whole war in it, I was not interested at all.

Then, after I graduated High School back in 2007, I decided to jump over to the Sci-Fi, and there was a scene of an assassination of an Emperor, who at the time I had no clue. Being the hardcore Sci-Fi geek I was at the time, I said, "That's stupid" and changed the channel. But, when I was 21 (last year in fact) and having finished serving a mission for my religion, I had seen all the Star Wars and Star Trek stuff that had come out at that time, I decided to see what else was out there in the Sci-Fi world, and read the summary of Babylon 5 on Wikipedia.

I thought for a second, "Wait, wasn't that that one show with the guy getting killed? Wasn't that stupid?" But, giving it some thought, decided to check out a couple of the episodes on Netflix. After the third episode, I rushed out to buy the DVD sets and I soon had seen the entire series and had fallen in love with the show.

And now, it is one of my favorite TV shows ever, if not the best I've seen.

And I hope to give back to the community and keep alive this great series.
